Balandra is widely regarded as the most prestigious beach not just in La Paz, but throughout Mexico. It’s famous for its Mushroom rock, shallow waters and stunning views from the nearby hike trail. Its popularity has grown enormously in recent years so make sure to get there early in order to guarantee a spot as there is limited capacity.
Coromuel is the closest beach to the La Paz Malecon. The renovated boardwalk includes a cycle path which reaches Coromuel, meaning it is an attractive beach for those practicing triathlons. With a pier, designated swimming areas and beachside food stalls, its popularity has also grown considerably in recent years.
La Concha beach is one of the oldest and is recognized for its affinity with the longstanding hotel which shares its name. La Concha, meaning the shell, is an excellent beach for nearby snorkeling and kayaking.
Caimancito is the next beach along from La Concha and is somewhat hidden from public view. Located opposite the luxury Pedregal residential area, Caimancito has crystal clear, shallow waters making it a popular place for kayakers.
El Tesoro is about a five minutes further drive from La Concha and Caimancito, and it sits as a cove in between two rock faces on either side. Named ‘the treasure’, it’s a wonderful beach for families as its shallow waters are great for children, while there are also beach restaurants and bathroom installation. The rocks either side provide the opportunity for short hikes, offering some stunning views and perfect landscape for photography.
Pichilingue is mostly associated with the ferry terminal with ferries taking both passengers and cargo to and from the mainland ports of Mazatlan and Topolobampo. But just around the corner from there is a public beach. There is a restaurant which is great for lunch, while the pier surrounded by shallow waters offers a good spot for an Instagram shot.
Tecolote, alongside Balandra, is the final spot along the highway to the beaches. It is the widest of all La Paz beaches, with the highest capacity for visitors. Isla Espíritu Santo sits in front making for a wonderful view, while restaurants and facilities make it a popular destination for beach events.
El Saltito concludes our list of La Paz beaches and it is the most secluded of the bunch. A different road is needed to take to arrive there, and it is largely unknown to tourists. As it’s more open, there is a steeper drop close to the shoreline and some waves to enjoy. It has good snorkeling and is a welcome spot for swimmers.
